7 Beaches to Inspire Your Visit to Sardinia

I recently spent a short holiday in Sardinia, Italy and all I want to do is go through my camera roll to revisit the beautiful experience we had. We managed to visit 7 beautiful beaches in just 4 days and honestly, I would love nothing more than to share photos from our experience with you all.

Now for a little backstory…

We had four full days to spend in Sardinia. Our base was in San Teodoro because we flew into Olbia, in northern Sardinia. After extensive research we found that San Teodoro was the best town to stay in for that region because of the good food, parties, and its close vicinity to a lot of highly recommended beaches.

Day 1

With an early flight out of Nice, we spent the morning picking up our rental car at Olbia airport, driving 30 mins to San Teodoro, and handling all the fun check-in procedures. At this point, we were ready to beach it up! As we needed to go back to the airport at night to pick up our final travel companion, we made the decision to keep our beach exploration local. I present to you…

Day 2

This was the day we decided to explore the beautiful archipelago island of La Maddalena in the north. There are a ton of beaches on La Maddalena and Caprera, along with three popular smaller islands: Budelli, Razzoli and Santa Maria. Our hearts were set on visiting the 3 islands and getting to experience pink sand and some of the clearest waters. However, Mother Nature wasn’t having it. The winds were so strong that day that not a single small boat was leaving the port. Oh, our heartbreak. 💔

We acted fast though and were ready with our backup plan: Caprera! We started our day with a quick breakfast and drove 1 hour to Palau, a port city in the north so that we could take a ferry to La Maddalena with our car in tow. Caprera is connected by a strip of road just 5-10 minutes from La Maddalena’s port.

Cala Serena

We parked at Cala Garibaldi and began a 15 minute hike to Cala Serena. The path is essentially unmarked, making Cala Serena a true solitary beach escape.

Finally, Cala Serena!

Spiaggia del Relitto

We stayed on Caprera to maximize our time on the island. Spiaggia del Relitto was not very far from Cala Serena – close to a 20-minutes drive on both paved and dirt roads.

Day 3

Day 3 was a Costa Smeralda day. Costa Smeralda is also in northern Sardinia and, in my opinion, had the 2nd best beaches of those we visited (Caprera being first)! If you’re looking to splurge a little and enjoy a vacation of blissful relaxation, then Costa Smeralda might be for you.

Costa Smeralda offers beautiful clifftop views!

Again, we left in the morning and drove 1 hour to arrive in Costa. Immediately, we went to our first destination.

 Day 4

We couldn’t believe our fourth and final day was upon us. It sucked, to say the least, but we didn’t let that sour our mood. Like Day 1, we decided to stay in San Teodoro.

Salina Bamba

Salina Bamba, located in Capo Coda Cavallo, is a beach infamous for its abundance of salt. This was the 7th and final beach of our trip. By this point, it’s already 3pm so we spent the next couple hours laying in the sand and dipping in the water before we drove back to San Teodoro.

I hope these photos inspire you to consider Sardinia as a vacation destination! I’m always here if you have questions. 😊

    1. Thank you! I definitely recommend Sardinia, especially if you’re looking for a little unplugging from the world.

  1. 7 beaches in 4 days, wow! That’s
    quite a #travelgoal makes me
want to go to the beach soon!

    1. Why must you choose?! 🙂 Yes, it’s quite difficult when you’re short on time. Each beach has its own beauty. Costa Smeralda is overall very beautiful, and La Maddalena and Caprera are definitely worth a visit!

  2. When I hear ‘Sardinia’, the music video for ‘Mi Chico Latino’ by Geri Halliwell comes to mind 😀 I
have yet to experience my Italian summer trip and I sent this post to my bestie who is studying
    there now 😀

    1. Haha! Unfortunately, that video doesn’t do Sardinia justice. 😉 Italy in the summer is a must. What better way to cool off from the heat than with a gelato! I hope you get a chance to visit Sardinia one day. Many thanks for sharing the post as well.

    1. Aw, thank you so much!! It was so hot and windy while we were there that my hair dried out, but somehow it was still camera ready, hahah. You should definitely make your way here (or other Italian islands) if you have the chance! It is absoluuutely beautiful.

  3. I’m not usually much of a beach person, but these pictures might just turn me around. The water
looks absolutely perfect in every single shot. You guys look like you had such a blast too. It must’ve
    been a great friends trip.

    1. Thank you. It was such a good time with great people! I think you should give this island a chance. You may be surprised by how much you could enjoy yourself!

  4. I can’t believe how crystal clear the water is! Just amazing! It looks like you all had a great time. I
will definitely be adding this to my bucket list.

    1. Thank you for reading! the water being so clear is very unreal and I really hope you get to see it for yourself one day.

  5. I’m usually a city girl but when a
beach is as beautiful as these ones –
I just have to go explore!! There’s
no better feeling than sand between
your toes and the shore rolling in.
    Thanks for fueling my wanderlust!

    1. You’re so right! It’s always a good idea to take a break from the city and escape to this. The sand and the sea are calling your name. 🙂

  6. Sardinia looks like paradise! Thanks for sharing – this looks like an unspoiled place in Italy (maybe
one of the last?!). On our list, which seems to be ever-growing!

    1. Thank you for reading! Sardinia is unspoiled and luckily, not the last. I went to Ischia this summer, a sister island to Capri, and everyone I came across were Italians and a few Germans. No English was spoken!

  7. Im a beach girl and an Italy lover – clearly I need to get to Sardegna! Is the water warm? Its so clear
and beautiful. I Love how you incorporated seemlessly, the videos in your post. The strip of land to
    drive on – crazy!

    1. Thank you so much! 🙂 I’m an Italy lover too, haha. The water was so warm, but still cool enough to escape the summer sun. I really recommend this island!

  8. Those beaches look amazing! It kinds of reminds me of the Cook Islands. We had to park and walk
on a road similar to yours. I’ve never really considered Sardinia for the beaches, but now it’s
    definitely on my list!

    1. Oh, how lucky are you to have gone there! That’s somewhere I would love to visit. Let me know if you ever want information on Sardinia.

  9. great post! I love Sardinia and its beaches… I think it is still relatively unpopular for non-Italian
tourists, and I don’t know why, cause its absolutely gorgeous!

    1. Thanks for reading, Ruth! You should definitely beach hop if you have the chance, especially to Budelli, Razzoli and Santa Maria islands in the north. Just beautiful!!

  10. Beautiful!! This sounds like a
    great alternative to the
    Almalfi coast. Thank you for
    sharing!

    1. Thanks, Stephanie! I thought so too. I visited both the Amalfi Coast and Sardinia this summer, and I really felt Sardinia was the ultimate paradise.
